Who's behind Artful

Artful is the brainchild of Rachel Hotchkiss who has worked in photography for over twenty years. With her partner and co-founder, Joshua Blackburn, and a talented team of creative junkies, wordsmiths and business brains to support them, Artful is a project born of shared passion.

Do you only sell photography?

At the moment, yes – but watch this space. We started with photography because it’s the principal passion of one of Artful’s founders, but it won’t be long before we’re offering graphic design, art prints, letterpress and more. Artful is about original, affordable, outstanding art – whatever the medium.

What’s in it for the artists?

It was a founding principle of Artful that artists should not only get a fair deal from the sale of their work but should benefit from the exposure and promotion Artful could provide them.

What is Artful Things?

Artful Things comes out every two weeks and is your round up of everything fizzy happening in the world of Artful… latest arrivals, ones to watch, upcoming events and sweet deals. Sign up and don't miss out.

How do I sign up for Artful Things?

You can sign up to Artful Things using the text box at the bottom of most pages… Just enter your email address and you’re good to go.

How can I contact Artful?

To get in touch, use the contact form on the Contact Us page.

How do I know that the artwork is authentic?

Every artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, your custom-made, signed guarantee that your original Artful edition is what it says it is.

What is a limited edition?

A limited edition is a series of identical prints that are limited in number. Edition sizes may be very small (below five) to hundreds or even thousands. Once the edition is sold out, that’s it. Small editions make work more exclusive and can therefore increase its potential investment value.

Are Artful artworks signed by the artist?

All artwork is accompanied by an artist-signed Certificate of Authenticity, stating the name of the artwork, artist name and edition number. Having a Certificate of Authenticity means we can avoid defacing the artwork itself. The Certificate can then be mounted to the back of your framed artwork.

What happens when an edition sells out?

Once an edition sells out, no more prints can and will be made. That's what makes it a 'Limited'. So get them while you can.

Does the artwork look exactly like the pictures on the website?

Colours on screen and in print aren't identical, but we've worked hard to ensure our site presents a faithful reproduction of the original artwork. All images are high resolution and have been artworked for online display. And we never take liberties with creative re-touching images. And remember, if you are not satisfied with the artwork when you receive it, you can always use our 14 day returns policy. See our returns policy.

Who owns the copyright to artworks within the Artful collection?

The artist owns the copyright and Artful is licensed by the artist to reproduce the photograph as a limited edition print. Purchasing the print gives you ownership of the actual print but not the copyright, nor any license to reproduce the image. If you want to use images on our site for media purposes, please contact us.

Can I use your images of Artful artworks on my blog?

You are welcome to share Artful's images on your blog but remember to either link to Artful or refer to us in the copy, and always always credit the photographer. It’s not just polite, it’s an essential condition of the use of our site.

Your Account

Why should I create a Artful account?

Here are four good reasons to set up an Artful account: (1) it’s easy, (2) you get exclusive preview and discount information, (3) you can create your own private ‘gallery’ (4) you need an account in order to track your order. What’s not to like?

What is Your Gallery?

When you ‘favourite’ an artwork it's saved to Your Gallery, building up a collection of artworks you like, love and hopefully want. Your Gallery also has a ‘Recently Viewed’ feature that is handy to scroll through. Your Gallery is therefore the perfect place to keep track of gift ideas and wishlists.

How do I set up an Artful account?

When will my work ship?

Unframed prints will often be despatched within five days of the order being received. Framed prints will take up to ten days but we always endeavour to do it faster than this.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are despatched by UPS couriers who are pretty nippy. UK orders will then be delivered within 48 hours – often sooner. International orders will depend upon the final destination but shouldn’t take longer than two or three days. As soon as your artwork is ready, we’ll notify you so you can check progress with your tracking number (see below).

Do I need to be home when the work is delivered?

Given the precious nature of your order, the courier will need a signature from somebody at the delivery address. If nobody is at home you will receive a card informing you of a missed delivery with details of how to arrange a new delivery date.

How do you determine shipping costs?

Shipping costs are calculated based on the size, weight and destination of the final package. These costs come directly from UPS and are never marked up by Artful.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We use UPS for all our shipping so international orders are not a problem.

Do you do returns?

We hope you’ll love anything you order from Artful, but if for any reason you have second thoughts on seeing the piece, you’re at liberty to return the item for a full refund or credit note. You need to get in touch with us within two weeks of the artwork being delivered in order to arrange a return. Please see our Returns section for the terms of our Returns policy.

What should I do if I receive a damaged work?

Get in touch straight away! You’ll need to send us details of the damage plus photos. We’ll then arrange for the replacement of the artwork. Please see our Returns section for more information.

How can i cancel my order?

You can cancel an order at any point prior to despatch. Drop us a line as swiftly as you can and we’ll do the necessaries. Email
